Insert your card menactra #1 Three years and 23 days ago, something happened that changed Britain forever. At 8pm on an otherwise ordinary Tuesday, two and a half million of us tuned into the first ever episode of The Great British Bake Off, a new “talent” show on BBC Two. Amateur contestants, armed with butter, eggs and flour, stood with their wooden spoons above their mixing bowls and waited for that now famous Klaxon call: “Ready, set, bake!”
