Some First Class stamps zyflamend wikipedia And bless the Foreign Office minister Alistair Burt’s saintly missus, Eve, for somehow carving a few minutes from her crushing workload as his office manager yesterday to defend this business on Radio 4’s Today programme. An unofficial shop steward in TUMS (the Trade Union of Members’ Spouses), Mrs Burt popped up on Channel 4 News in October 2009, when the post-expenses scandal Kelly Report advised that the practice be terminated. Then, she threatened legal action at the European Court of Human Rights, on grounds of unfair restriction of employment. Failing that, she added, she and others would simply trade jobs with other MPs’ relatives to circumvent such a fatwah – a highly engaging twist on the suburban wife-swapping party, one felt, in which the keyboards would be gaily tossed on to the office carpet. Yesterday, she pointed out that she earns her corn in part because her husband often travels abroad on a Sunday. You cannot put a price on such arduous work as lobbing a few pairs of socks and a toothbrush into a suitcase.
