Review:
It\'s a bad line online essay outline On paper, that is. On the air, it conveys the faint impression of an earnest teacher showing you the side of him that isn’t irregular verbs or hard sums. You could almost smell the tweed jacket as, for 15 solemn opening minutes, he traced Changes (as sung by Alan Price in Lindsay Anderson’s film O Lucky Man, as sung by Laurie here with a rattling good band) back to its Victorian hymn origins, its rebirth as a First World War soldiers’ song and its transformation now into sparkling guitar blues. At 10.16pm precisely, where an ad break might be, came a promo for Radio 2’s The People’s Songs. The temptation to turn over to Newsnight to see what Damian McBride was telling Jeremy Paxman was almost irresistible. But I stayed, musing.
