To an extent, this happened to me, with a few little pushes along the way, and a few little risks that I took, one of which was going to Edinburgh.’ After years of honing his act, Flanagan came of age as a stand-up at the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe, where, aged 44, he became the oldest comedian to be nominated for the Best Newcomer Award. That success provided a springboard to Radio 4, on which Micky Flanagan: What Chance Change? aired in 2010, and from there it was a short hop to TV, nationwide tours and top billing at the Cliffs Pavilion.
